BMAC is an orthobiologic treatment prepared from a patient’s own bone marrow aspirate. It may be considered for selected musculoskeletal conditions after a physician evaluates the diagnosis, severity of the problem, prior treatment, imaging when relevant, overall health, and functional goals.
BMAC should not inherit the broad condition list often associated with general stem-cell research or marketing. It should not automatically be presented as treatment for neurological disease, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions, or other unrelated systemic conditions.
Problems That May Be Evaluated
Knee conditions: Patients with selected degenerative or musculoskeletal knee conditions may be evaluated to determine whether BMAC fits their treatment plan. The decision depends on the diagnosis and severity rather than knee pain alone.
Hip conditions: Selected patients with a diagnosed musculoskeletal hip condition may be evaluated for BMAC after review of symptoms, examination findings, imaging when indicated, and previous treatment.
Other joint concerns: BMAC may be discussed for certain joint-related musculoskeletal problems when the diagnosis and clinical findings support an orthobiologic approach.
Tendon, ligament, and sports-related injuries: Some musculoskeletal soft-tissue or sports-related conditions may be evaluated for regenerative treatment. The exact condition list should be medically approved by Dr. Raj before publication.
How Candidacy Is Determined
Eligibility is individualized. Dr. Raj reviews the patient’s diagnosis, examination, imaging when appropriate, treatment history, medical history, activity demands, and goals. BMAC is not appropriate for every patient or condition, and another treatment may be recommended when it better fits the clinical findings.
